An idea, then a way to play it.
Before there’s a track, there’s often just a fragment: a rhythm, a texture, a few notes you want to follow. We make instruments and effects for the part that comes next.
Music leads the work.
We make tools for our own music, and share them for you to use in yours.
What interests us is the back-and-forth between an idea and what you hear. You try something, a detail catches your ear, and the track takes a turn you hadn’t planned. Those moments are part of the work, too.
That shapes what we build: instruments and effects you can explore by listening, with enough control to turn a promising result into something you can use.

Noem comes from noema, a term from philosophy. For us, the name is a reminder of what a tool is for: the thing someone is trying to make.
When we design an instrument, we work back from that intention to the controls. The questions are musical: what do you want to change, what should you hear as you change it, and how do you keep the part worth keeping?
The name keeps us coming back to those questions.
There’s more in the session than our own work.
Making music also means listening. The records we return to and the tools other people build are part of that work.
We share music on Noem Radio and keep a list of free plugins worth trying. They belong here for the same reason as our own tools: they give you something to explore in your next session.
